FROM PRINCIPAL’S DESK

At the outset I welcome the students to our college. The students have joined here with hope to become a good engineer in their selected branches. I on behalf of the Management and the faculty assure that we will extend all the help and facilities required for successful completion of your studies. But this alone will not ensure a good product. The key element i.e. the student has to do more than what we provide. A student might have joined either as per his own will and wish or as per the will and wish of his/her parents. It does not matter. Having joined this course he/she has to put the required efforts to get a degree along with knowledge.

Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam rose from a boy belonging to middle class family to the level of the first citizen, President, of our country. How could he achieve this? The answer is known to every one. That is hard work and continuous efforts even after facing disappointments and failures.  We can observe that all the top persons, irrespective of the field of achievement rose to the level of international figures just by hard work and positive attitude. Historical examples like Chanakya, Swamy Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar reveal the same. Every one became international figure by these two qualities viz., hard work and positive attitude.

My message to the youngsters (students as well as staff) is “Read the Biography of any top person; Get inspired; Have a strong will and proper vision; You will definitely achieve what you desire”

I wish them all a bright future.

Dr. CH.SATHAIAH.
PRINCIPAL,
VAAGDEVI COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING,
BOLLIKUNTA,

Principal's Profile

EDUCATION:

Prof. Ch. Sathaiah passed various examinations Viz., H.S.C. (Board of Secondary Education, Hyderabad) in 1965, P.U.C (Osmania University, Hyderabad) in 1966, B.E. (Mechanical Engineering), (Osmania University, Hyderabad) in 1972, M.Tech. (Design and Production of Machine Tools), (Regional Engineering College, Warangal) in 1974. He stood First in H.S.C. among all the students of the examination Centre and also stood First in P.U.C. Examination centre. He was in First Ten of the Engineering Graduates passed in 1972 from Osmania University. He passed the M.Tech examination in I division with distinction.

He did his doctorate in the field of “Bulk Solids Flow through Chutes” which is a multi disciplinary topic related to Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Mining Engineering. The research work was carried our in I.I.T., Madras from 1990 to 1993 under the expert guidance of Prof. M.A. Parameswaran and Prof. M. Madhusudhan Rao belonging to Mechanical Handling section of Mechanical Engineering Department.

EXPERIENCE:

The very first job he joined after passing out M.Tech. was Assistant Engineer (Mechanical) in Singareni Collieries Company Limited (A Coal Mining Industry in Andhra Pradesh). He was to look after maintenance of all the electrical equipment and mechanical machinery working underground. This field experience was much useful for him in consolidating the theoretical concepts which is useful for teaching the theoretical subjects authoritatively. This was very much helpful for his future research work also. He could fabricate all his experimental setups confidently with less difficulty.

After serving the industry for four and half years, he changed his career to teaching which is a domain of first choice for him. He joined as lecturer in Kothagudem school of Mines (Osmania University) located at Kothagudem, a town encompassing the head office of Singareni Collieries Company Limited(a public sector coal mining industry). His experience in mining industry was quite useful for teaching Mining Engineering Students in that College (administrative control of that college was transferred to Kakatiya University in1994 and later it was renamed as University College of Engineering). He served the college for 29 years in various capacities (both academic and administrative) and retired as Principal on 31st January 2008, the day of his superannuation.

ACHIEVEMENTS IN ACADEMICS:

He taught various subjects of Mechanical Engineering for the B.Tech. students for 29 years and various mining machinery subjects for M.Tech. students for 10 years. Under his guidance the M.Tech. candidates (Field engineers studying in part time scheme) have published dissertations on problems related to industry which are quite useful for practising engineers.

He published technical papers in National and International Journals on various problems related to Mining Machinery and also in his doctoral Topic “Flow of bulk solids through chutes”.

As incharge of various laboratories he was very active in developing and updating the laboratories like Engineering Workshops, Thermal Engineering Labs, Mining Machinery Lab and Computer Lab. He has a good experience of conducting industrial training for students, seminars and workshops for practising engineers in the industries.

ADMINISTRATION & CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:

He took various responsibilities as and when required by the University Authorities, to mention a few, building maintenance in the college campus, Vehicle maintenance, development of college library, conducting of University examinations in the college.

He is a member of Institution of Engineers (India) and Life Member of Indian Society for Technical Education.

Having gained experience in almost all sections of the college, he was appointed as Principal of the college for a total period of four years and served in that capacity till his superannuation.

The Management of Vaagdevi College of Engineering got impressed about his vast experience and appointed him as Principal within a very short period after his superannuation and they are quite confident in achieving better performance during his stay in the college.
